Starting in front of the local mountain Mt Horrible you have a glide into a weak headwind, get round Magic and expect some good climbs to get you over the next range. You will need to work the spur lines over terrain as it’s a hot day. Don’t expect the ridges to work!
First turn at Makerora where there is a busy little airfield if any snowflakes need to stop for a coffee. Real pilots decide from multiple options which is the fastest to TP2 which is berried at the base of NZ’s 23rd highest mountain.
The third leg takes you on a beautifully senic route past Lake Wanaka and Lake Hawea and right over the top of the famous “Dingle” strip. Safely home through familiar terrain to the west control and finish line. |
