Condor E-Glide Competition
(Jan. 2nd, 2025 - March 2nd, 2025)
Proof of concept for an e-glide competition in Condor. Like in the real e-glide competition, you are allowed to use your FES sustainer.
IMPORTANT!
Condor Club (and condor itself) will not score E-glide flights correctly, since the use of the sustainer triggers an outlanding. Scoring is done in a spreadsheet which can be seen here:
https://shorturl.at/bez9Q (HTML format, ~5min delay)
https://shorturl.at/3AUC8 (Google Docs)
In order to be scored, you must first upload your flight track to
condor.club as usual. After uploading, click on the "analyze flight" link and keep this window open (if you close it, AFAIK you can only access it again after all results are published the next day).
Then you open the link to a Google Form which will be provided to you in the briefing, and fill out your results. Please be careful to not make mistakes.
UPDATE!
From Day 3 on, we will begin to experiment with energy consumption based scoring. For this, you will need to upload a screenshot showing your battery status, using the google results form we have been using until now.
First, please make sure you set screenshot type to JPG in condor setup / options.
While still in game, after you completed the task, press the TAB key to show condor's realtime scoring table, then make sure the motor instrument is visible, and press S to make a screenshot. This screenshot will be saved by default in C:\Users\[your username]\Documents\Condor3\Screenshots. In the form you will have the option to upload this screenshot.
The scoring works as following for the Lak Mini; in the briefing you will be given a target voltage. For next task this will be 103V, which is roughly 40% battery remaining (For reference, at full throttle that voltage will sag to ~91-92V). There is no benefit in finishing with more than this target voltage, so try to use your battery down to this voltage. But every volt you have left versus an empty battery, and up to the maximum target voltage, will be awarded with 40 seconds time bonus. For this calculation we assume 84V is empty (you can drain the Lak battery down to 64V, but once you get below 84V, you have a few tens of seconds of full power left).
This means in this example you can get up to (103V-84V) x 40s = ~12.5 minutes worth of time bonus. Should your battery be below 84V, it will scored the same as empty. If you do not produce a valid screenshot, you will be assumed to have drained your battery entirely, and you will also get no time bonus.
In the real eglide allotted kWH is compensated for mass, so a Duo gets ~2x more kWH than the Lak Mini. To mimic this, in e-glide, the DuoDiscus FES is allowed to use its entire battery, and will always be awarded the same maximum bonus time Lak pilots can get; this bonus is applied after the handicap. This, along with removing the wingload limit, should make the Duo a lot more competitive. If you fly the Duo, use your entire battery and you dont need to make and upload a screenshot, since you dont benefit extra from finishing with excess capacity.
Notes:
After using the motor, live scoring stops being useful and the condor PDA will stop registering TPs or finish. I will try to make tasks that minimize this problem, but its strongly recommended you use the LX for navigation/final glide calculations or an external program like XCSoar or Comomap.
Tasks will use a regatta start and may be much harder than you are used to. But, you do have a motor you can use!
Briefing
You will receive a briefing from Condor Club 2 hours before the race; however as CC currently provides no info on weather zones or airspace zones, more useful briefing information can be found on the forum and E-Glide results page, typically a day in advance:
https://shorturl.at/bez9Q Scoring
Your day rank is based on your race time, to which penalty points may be added, then corrected for handicap, after which an energy based time bonus can be a applied. Lak pilots can get 40 seconds bonus for every Volt between the task target voltage and empty (assumed to be 84V). Duo Discus FES pilots always get the maximum possible time bonus and thus can/should use the entire battery.
Day results are scored using GP style points, but stretched to accommodate the larger number of participants, giving 20 points to the winner, 16 for second place, and then 14, 12, 10, 9, 8, 7..1 Additionally, at least half a point is awarded to everyone who finishes the task without airspace violations.
Overall ranking uses LLC style scoring. This is a penalized average of all your day scores (only started races count). The penalization means everyone starts with one fictional bad result that is included in your average, so no matter how many times you win, you can always improve your average result. But you can also make it worse every time you start. This system allow people who cant fly all or even most races a fair chance at a good result, without giving a free pass to players who do fly every race; if they have a bad day, they will still tumble down the ranking. Consistency is key!
Crashing or out landing will be scored with zero.
Penalty points
Condor Penalty points are converted to a time penalty. For every penalty point you incur 10s extra time.
Failure to submit the google results form (after having started the task) will be penalized with 5 penalty points to your overall ranking score.
